Built on the brand’s TNGA-F body-on-frame platform, the same tough architecture that underpins models like the Toyota Tacoma and Land Cruiser, the all-new 4Runner blends hardcore capability with elevated comfort, efficiency, and safety.

A New Platform for a New Era

Underneath the reimagined exterior lies a robust foundation built for both trail dominance and daily usability. The TNGA-F global truck platform brings with it a high-strength steel-ladder frame paired with a multi-link coil rear suspension and double wishbone front suspension. These upgrades translate into improved ride comfort and on-road handling without compromising off-road durability. With a towing capacity of up to 6,000 pounds when properly equipped, the 2025 4Runner remains one of the most capable midsize body-on-frame SUVs available today.

Powertrain Options: i-FORCE and i-FORCE MAX

Toyota 4Runner

Toyota now offers two versions of its turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine in the new 4Runner. The standard i-FORCE engine, available on SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and Limited trims, produces 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

For drivers seeking more performance, the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain is offered on TRD Off-Road and standard on TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and the all-new Platinum trim. This setup combines the turbocharged engine with a 48-hp electric motor integrated into the transmission, powered by a 1.87-kWh battery. Together, the system generates 326 horsepower and a robust 465 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful powertrain ever offered in a 4Runner.

Off-Roading Capability Taken Further

Off-road prowess has always been core to the 4Runner’s identity, and the 2025 model deepens that legacy. A new Stabilizer Bar Disconnect Mechanism, activated at the push of a button, provides greater wheel articulation to tackle uneven terrain. Additional improvements include approach and departure angles of up to 32 and 24 degrees respectively, and an updated Multi-Terrain Monitor that offers better trail visibility via the central screen.

4WD systems differ across grades, with part-time and full-time 4WD configurations available. TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter models include an electronic locking rear differential. The Platinum trim features full-time 4WD with a centre locking differential, making it both refined and ready for adverse conditions. The Multi-Terrain Select system has also been updated to operate in both high and low range, enhancing traction control on surfaces like mud, sand, or gravel.

Other off-road tools include a quieter CRAWL Control system for low-speed trail navigation, Downhill Assist Control, and an Auto LSD for added grip. Together, these features ensure the new 4Runner remains one of the most versatile and off-road-ready VUS on the market.

Trailhunter and Platinum: New Grades, New Purpose

The 2025 4Runner lineup expands to seven grades, offering more choice than ever. A new Trailhunter version caters directly to overland enthusiasts, serving as a factory-built off-grid rig. Trailhunter features include ARB Old Man Emu 2.5-inch forged shocks, 33-inch Toyo A/T tires, steel skid plates, rock rails, and a heritage-style grille with a 20-inch LED light bar. A high-mount air intake and a 2400W AC inverter further equip it for extended wilderness excursions.

In contrast, the first-ever 4Runner Platinum grade delivers a more luxurious take. It sits above the Limited trim, offering heated second-row seats, a head-up display, standard Tow Tech Package, and unique blacked-out styling. This grade is ideal for those wanting the 4Runner’s capability combined with a premium driving experience.

Refined Interior and Versatile Space

The cabin of the new 4Runner is a significant step forward in design and usability. With standard second-row tumble seats and an available third row, versatility is built in. Materials have been upgraded across the board, and the layout balances rugged usability with modern sophistication. A power rear window remains a signature feature, and a power liftgate is available for added convenience.

Higher trims receive Toyota’s new 12.3-inch fully digital instrument panel, while others feature a 7-inch gauge cluster. A standard 8-inch or available 14-inch multimedia touchscreen displays Toyota’s latest infotainment system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Connectivity is enhanced with multiple USB-C charging ports and an available wireless charging pad.

The Smart Key system with push-button start is standard across all trims. Select models also feature a Digital Key capability, allowing compatible smartphones to unlock and start the vehicle remotely. This key can also be shared digitally, adding convenience and flexibility.

Safety Comes Standard

All 2025 Toyota 4Runner models include Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which bundles advanced features like Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, and Road Sign Assist. These technologies ensure that the new 4Runner is not only trail-capable but also ready for safer everyday driving.

A Rugged Lineup

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner now stands alongside the Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma, and Land Cruiser as part of Toyota’s refreshed body-on-frame lineup. With multiple powertrains, a new high-end luxury option, factory-built overlanding capability, and cutting-edge technology, this latest generation secures its place as one of the most versatile and adventurous VUS choices in the market.
