What’s Covered Under the Toyota Manufacturer Warranty?

Toyota’s manufacturer warranty covers replacement parts and labour under a range of conditions, depending on when the part is installed and whether the installation was performed by a Toyota Authorized Dealer.

1- During the Basic Vehicle Warranty Period

If a part is replaced by a Toyota dealership within the Basic Vehicle Warranty—which generally covers 3 years or 60,000 kilometres, whichever comes first—Toyota will cover both parts and labour for either:

  • 90 days, or
  • The remainder of the Basic Warranty,
    whichever is longer.

This ensures that any early part failures are repaired at no cost to you when serviced at an authorized Toyota dealership.

2- After the Basic Warranty Period Has Expired

If your part is replaced after the Basic Warranty period, and it is installed at a Toyota Authorized Dealer, then Toyota covers:

  • 12 months or 20,000 kilometres,
    whichever comes first,
    including both parts and labour.

This extended coverage is designed to support Toyota drivers beyond the initial factory coverage window.

3- Parts Not Installed by a Toyota Dealer

If a Genuine Toyota Part is purchased and installed outside a Toyota dealership—such as by an independent shop or through self-installation—Toyota still provides warranty coverage:

  • 12 months of parts coverage
  • Unlimited kilometres
  • Labour is not covered under this condition.

It’s important to note that Toyota can only verify the quality of installation when the work is performed by a certified Toyota technician.

What’s Not Covered Under the Standard Warranty?

While Toyota’s warranties are generous, there are a few exclusions to keep in mind:

  • Parts replaced under specialty warranties like battery, muffler, or shock absorber warranties have separate terms.
  • Items subject to wear and tear or cosmetic changes—such as discolouration, fading, or surface deterioration—are not covered.
  • The following parts are typically not covered after 6 months, as they are considered wear items:
    • Filters
    • Fuses
    • Wiper blades and inserts
    • Light bulbs (excluding headlamps)
    • Replacement batteries (covered separately—see below)

These exclusions reflect industry standards and are based on regular wear rather than product defects.

Toyota Replacement Battery Warranty

Toyota GR86

Toyota offers a full line of premium, maintenance-free replacement batteries that meet the high standards set by the brand. These batteries come with their own warranty, which varies depending on where the battery was installed.

Batteries Installed at a Toyota Dealership

  • Months 1–24:
100% replacement, including parts, labour, and sublets
  • Months 25–36:
50% of the parts cost only
(Labour and sublets are not included)

Batteries Installed Elsewhere (Not at a Toyota Dealership)

  • Months 1–24:
100% replacement (including parts, labour, and sublets)
  • Months 25–36:
50% replacement of parts cost only

Whether you get your battery installed at Georgetown Toyota or another facility, Toyota provides strong coverage—though dealership installation offers clearer warranty handling and assurance of proper installation.

There are some conditions that will void battery coverage:

  • Damage due to mishandling (dropped, opened, cracked, frozen, contaminated)
  • Improper use of electrolyte
  • Batteries that have been recharged or tampered with

Always follow Toyota’s recommended maintenance procedures and use approved parts to preserve your warranty protection.
