Race Into 2021 With The All New Toyota GR Supra

If you’re looking for a car that is a blast to drive with its own distinct personality, then the 2021 Toyota GR Supra has everything you’re looking for. With its turbocharged available inline 6-cylinder engine, as well as other improvements you’ll love, take a look at how Toyota brought back the Supra in a blaze of speed, with acceleration and handling performance that clearly outshines its 2020 predecessor.

So, What’s New?

Only a year after the Supra was originally introduced in 2020, Toyota is turning up the heat on the 2021 GR Supra with its new turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, which dials up the horsepower from 335 to 382. To appeal to even larger audiences, Toyota has also added a four-cylinder model to the lineup, which is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that makes 255 horsepower. If you’re looking to customize your ride’s style and experience even further, you can even opt for the range-topping A91 special edition model that comes standard with the six-cylinder engine, and it adds a host of appearance items to the interior and exterior to differentiate it from the regular Supra models. The 2021 model also replaces the standard 6.5” infotainment screen from 2020 with an 8.8” display that comes standard across the line up.

Exterior and Interior

Accenting the Supra’s concept car-inspired body are a rear black carbon fibre lip spoiler, matte black wheels–available in 19" forged-aluminum twin-spokes, C-pillar graphics, full LED headlights with adaptive lighting and adaptive steering, and carbon fibre mirror caps. You’ll also have the option of 8 different exterior paint colours, depending on the model you choose. Inside you’ll find that the Supra’s style is also race inspired with a driver focused cockpit, double bubble roof, available black Alcantara leather-trimmed interior with blue contrast, available heads up display and wireless charging station, and cargo spaced accessed via a hatchback that’s roomy enough for all of your transportation needs. All the safety and infotainment controls will also have you feeling right at home.

Tech and Safety

A digital gauge display is standard across the lineup, and you’ll also have the choice of available navigation and Apple CarPlay capability. If you’re looking to up your infotainment experience, the 12-speaker JBL audio system is optional, but the standard 10-speaker audio system will also not disappoint. The GR Supra also offers a host of driver assistance features as standard across the Supra lineup, including automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and automatic high beam headlamps. Additional features such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring can be added via the Driver Assistance package. Other added features include:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (Full speed)
  • Lane departure warning
  • Road sign assist
  • Parking sonar with rear collision warning
  • Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

Performance

All the 2021 GR Supra models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and are offered only with rear-wheel drive. The Supra’s increased output also results from a slew of upgrades throughout the engine. The new dual-branch exhaust manifold, with six ports instead of two, improves heat management, and the greatly revised engine produces higher torque at higher rpm and retains the eagerness to rev with turbine-like smoothness. Toyota projects 0-96 km/h in 5.0 seconds for the Supra, which will make it Toyota’s second quickest vehicle in the lineup. You’ll also find that the Supra’s steering is accurate, nicely weighted and direct, which enhances its fun-to-drive personality. Upgrades from the 2020 model have also been made for better roll resistance and enhanced cornering stability, while mechanical tuning was achieved by tweaking the Adaptive Variable Suspension and Vehicle Stability Control systems.
